In 2001, the international Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) was officially established. As one of the main countries that embraced and carried out proteomics research in its start period, China established the China Human Proteome Organization through the effort of the Chinese proteomics society to better participate in international cooperation programs on proteome research and to strengthen academic exchanges at home and abroad.

在2001年,国际人类蛋白质组学组织(HUPO)正式成立。作为在蛋白质组学研究初期积极参与并开展此领域研究的主要国家之一,中国通过中国蛋白质组学学会的努力成立了中国人类蛋白质组学组织,以更好地参与国际合作项目,并加强国内外的学术交流。

Proteome research, as a major pillar of functional genomics, is the frontier of life sciences today and has become a strategic vantage point in the field of biotechnology and the biomedical industry in the 21st century. As the direct product and a touchstone of the genome, proteome research could directly shed light upon the laws and nature of life activities, the pathogenesis of major human diseases (pathogens), and disease development. In this regard, it can promote the development of basic disciplines in life sciences as well as those in applied sciences such as analysis, information, and materials. That is to say, proteome research bears a strategic significance in improving China’s independent biomedical innovation capacity, the ability to prevent and treat major diseases and increase national health levels. In another sense, it may even play a major role in invigorating the development of national economic development by building up new drug research and development capabilities to facilitate the biomedicine-based pharmaceutical industries. All major countries in the world have invested heavily in establishing specialized, high-throughput proteomic R&D centers and initiated corresponding research programs and projects. Therefore, the research landscape is rapidly revolutionizing. In 2001, the international Human Proteome Organization was formally established, and followed that, one by one, the European and Asia-Pacific national and regional proteome organizations have become formed. China is among the major countries that embraced and carried out proteomics in its start period. Since 1997, related research topics have been initiated and successfully implemented under the funding of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the 973, and the 863 programs. Several proteomic research centers or key laboratories have been established in China. Since then, we have witnessed a steady development in proteomic bioinformatics research team building and the technical system. Promising progress has been made in structural proteomic research. The technical methods of protein interaction and related instrumentation have been successfully applied in many domestic research institutions. The results have been published in many international leading journals with recognition from the international academic community. Proteomics research remains one of the fundamental research areas in life sciences in China to keep pace with the main developed countries in the world.

蛋白质组学研究作为功能基因组学的主要支柱,是当今生命科学的前沿,已经成为21世纪生物技术和生物医学产业领域的战略制高点。作为基因组的直接产物和试金石,蛋白质组学研究能够直接揭示生命活动的规律和本质、重大人类疾病的发病机制(病原体)以及疾病的发展过程。在这方面,它有助于推动生命科学基础学科以及分析学、信息学和材料学等应用学科的发展。也就是说,蛋白质组学研究在提升中国自主生物医学创新能力、防治重大疾病、提高国家健康水平方面具有战略意义。从另一个角度来看,它甚至可能在激发国家经济发展、通过建立新的药物研发能力促进以生物医药为基础的制药产业发展方面发挥重要作用。世界上所有主要国家都在大力投资建立专门的高通量蛋白质组学研发中心,并启动了相应的研究项目。因此,研究格局正在迅速发生革命性变化。2001年,国际人类蛋白质组学组织正式成立,随后,欧洲和亚太地区的各国和地区蛋白质组学组织也陆续成立。中国是最早积极参与和开展蛋白质组学研究的主要国家之一。自1997年以来,相关研究课题在中国国家自然科学基金、973计划和863计划资助下启动并成功实施,多个蛋白质组学研究中心或重点实验室在中国建立。此后,我们见证了蛋白质组学生物信息学研究团队建设和技术体系的稳步发展,结构蛋白质组学研究取得了可喜的进展。蛋白质相互作用的技术方法及相关仪器设备已成功应用于国内众多研究机构,相关成果在许多国际领先期刊上发表,并获得国际学术界的认可。蛋白质组学研究仍然是中国生命科学领域的重要基础研究领域,且与世界主要发达国家保持同步发展。

 

The purposes of the organization are:

to carry out academic exchanges in proteomics at home and abroad; to popularize the knowledge of proteomic disciplines; to promote the development of proteomic disciplines and the translation of scientific and technological achievements; to promote proteomic technologies; to promote cooperation in proteomic research projects; to discover, cultivate and refer excellent scientific and technological talents in proteomics.

The main activities are held as follows:

I. Assist responsible government departments in formulating development plans for human proteomics in China, propose and formulate plans for specific research projects, and promote proteomic research and cooperation;

II. Organize and participate in international human proteomics research programs;

III. Coordinate counterpart exchanges and project cooperation with international human proteome organizations or branch organizations.

IV. Promote and arrange domestic and international academic exchange activities, organize various academic activities and educational training events, and provide academic consultation.

 

该组织的宗旨为:

开展国内外蛋白质组学学术交流;普及蛋白质组学学科知识;促进蛋白质组学学科的发展和科技成果转化;推动蛋白质组学技术的发展;促进蛋白质组学研究项目的合作;发现、培养并推荐优秀的蛋白质组学科研人才。
主要活动如下:

I. 协助相关政府部门制定中国人类蛋白质组学的发展规划,提出并制定具体研究项目的计划,推动蛋白质组学研究与合作;

II. 组织和参与国际人类蛋白质组学研究项目;

III. 协调与国际人类蛋白质组学组织或其分支机构的对口交流与项目合作;

IV. 推动和安排国内外学术交流活动,组织各类学术活动和教育培训活动,并提供学术咨询。
